"One of Ten Best Towns for Families (Webster Groves)"
- Family Circle Magazine
WEBSTER GROVES, Missouri - November 5, 2008 – Fun, fantastic, festive…fairy! You are invited to a season of special holiday events that are sure to top your list of favorite things and make you love Old Orchard. Kicking off on November 13, Old Orchard businesses will host a series of events centered on the Sugar Plum Fairy. Wine tastings, holiday cookies, family fairy photographs and beautiful holiday lights make up this year’s Sugar Plum Fairy Delights.
Shops in Old Orchard will host charity wine tastings on Thursdays during the holiday gift buying season. Participating Old Orchard businesses will stay open until 8 p.m. for extended shopping on November 13, November 20 and December 4. During these evenings you can sample wine provided by local restaurants and wine stores, then add your favorite selections to your personal holiday buying list. Each evening will focus on a different style of wine (white, red and sparkling) to taste with a nominal glass purchase of $10. A portion of all proceeds from the glass price will benefit a select charity.
Old Orchard merchants will showcase their baking skills with a Cookie Bake-off and Recipe Exchange. Customers shopping in Old Orchard on November 29 will have a chance to ‘pick something fresh’ and sample cookies made by all the baking masterminds in Old Orchard. Visitors will even be able to bring home the recipes to share with, bake for and impress their family and friends this holiday season.
Sugar Plum Fairy Holiday Photos will be offered to families on Saturday December 6 in Gazebo Park. Decked out in fantastic Nutcracker Fairyland finery, these festive photo sessions feature an award-winning photographer from Nordmann Photography. All sitting fees have been waived and very reasonable packages are available. Free hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows will keep guests warm while they wait. Events like these are just one reason Webster Groves was named “one of ten best towns for families” by Family Circle Magazine earlier this year.
Throughout the holiday season, Old Orchard shops will hand out free “luminary kits” to visitors from Webster Groves.
On December 13, all residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in the first Sugar Plum Fairy Lights, an annual luminary night. The entire Webster Groves community will place luminary bags in front of their homes and shops to create a warm, holiday glow throughout the neighborhood. Afterwards residents can recycle their bags made of 30-40% post-consumer material.
